Senior Buyer

Location: Auburn Hills/Pontiac, MI
Schedule: Monday-Thursday onsite | Friday remote
Travel: Caro, MI approximately every other week
Employment Type: Full-Time

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to support direct material purchasing within an automotive manufacturing environment. This position will work closely with plant operations, commodity management, engineering, finance, program management, and corporate purchasing.

The Senior Buyer will be responsible for purchasing activities supporting production programs, supplier coordination, purchase orders, pricing accuracy, engineering changes, and alignment with established sourcing strategies.

Responsibilities

• Manage direct material purchasing activities supporting manufacturing and production requirements
• Issue and maintain blanket purchase orders
• Work with commodity managers to execute approved sourcing strategies
• Maintain accurate supplier pricing, purchasing data, and ERP records
• Review supplier invoices for pricing and quantity accuracy
• Coordinate purchasing activities related to engineering change notices (ECNs)
• Support supplier changes and purchasing transitions
• Support low-volume and specialty automotive programs
• Coordinate purchasing requirements associated with program extensions and cancellations
• Work with plant operations, engineering, finance, program management, and corporate purchasing
• Track purchasing activities, program milestones, and required documentation
• Identify potential supply risks and purchasing concerns
• Identify opportunities for cost savings and purchasing improvements
• Support purchasing activities associated with plant shutdown planning
• Manage multiple purchasing projects and supplier communications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Purchasing, or a related field
• 5+ years of direct material purchasing experience within the automotive industry
• Experience working directly with suppliers
• Strong negotiation and supplier communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple purchasing priorities
• Experience working cross-functionally with manufacturing and corporate teams

Preferred Experience

• Tier 1 or Tier 2 automotive supplier experience
• Global supplier or cross-regional sourcing experience
• Engineering change management
• Supplier transitions
• Automotive program purchasing

Work Location and Schedule

This position is based in the Auburn Hills/Pontiac, Michigan area .

The normal schedule is onsite Monday through Thursday with remote work on Friday . The position also requires travel to Caro, Michigan approximately every other week .
